Dooars

DOOARS – the perfect natural retreat

If you want to grab a break, from the crowded tourist destinations that fail to offer you a peace of mind, then Dooars is the place for you to be in. It is an extensively forested domain that has remained aloof from the clutches of rigorous commercial tourism. The Dooars district is in fact dominated by the exotic Himalayan wildlife, which harmoniously thrives with the scanty tribal & rural population scattered here and there throughout the region. Unlike other overcrowded destinations, Dooars offers you isolated resorts & government lodges nestled amidst the tranquil of the peaceful canopies.

But the highlight of a trip to Dooars will always be the safari trips to nationally acclaimed Wildlife Sanctuaries & National Parks. You are bound to awestruck by coming face to face with the exotic wildlife of Dooars like Asiatic Elephants, leopards, Royal Bengal Tigers, gaurs, chital, flying squirrels, deer, rhinos & more. Dooars is three hours away from Siliguri, where the nearest railhead & the airport is. But fetching any mode of public transportation that will commute from Siliguri to Dooars is relatively harder. We recommend an advance arrangement of a vehicle of your preference, for the onward journey.

Culture of Dooars

Dooars is an au-fait natural province that sports a symbiotic Nature-Man balance. The culture that thrives in the district of Dooars mainly originates from the ethnic inhabitants of the region. The Bodo, Rava, Mech, Rajbonshi, Tamang, Limbu & the Lepcha tribes inhabit Dooars. They have distinct mongoloid features, with an accent that is a tad softer than the mainlanders of West Bengal. They tend to speak at a faster pace and generally farmers or tea-pickers who maintain a lifestyle that is more intimate with Nature.
